Title: Childhood embarrassment
Prompt: #9 - Going through each other's baby pictures
Wordcount: 708
Notes: I love moms.

Nikaido felt perfectly safe leaving Senga with his mother and grandmother while taking a shower. They got along well, and he has to admit he was a bit high on the joy of his family getting along with his boyfriend. And so he took his time in the shower, thinking that nothing bad would happen to Senga, except maybe getting stuffed with too much food.

And so, when he leaves the bathroom dressed in sweatpants and an oversized T-shirt and he hears laughter from the living room, he doesn't think too much about it. But when he approaches, he hears Senga's voice. “What is that even, why is he wearing that?”

“Oh, he always did that, put on as many as he could and called himself a professor.” Nikaido's mother says with affection and Senga's laugh is heartwarming.

But Nikaido hurries into the living room, stopping in the doorway to take in the disaster. Senga's crosslegged in the couch, Nikaido's mother on one side and his grandmother on the other, and an open photo album in his lap.

“Mom what are you doing?” Nikaido hisses through his teeth, and his mother looks up with an innocent smile.

Senga looks up when he hears him, and his smile is so warm and genuine and his eyes so soft that Nikaido can't be angry with him even if he tried, even if he knows that Senga's seen him three years old and naked on the beach, four years old with skis on the grass in summer, and five years old with ten of his grandmother's hats on his head and wearing his sister's pink skirt.

“Hey. We're looking at your baby pictures.” Senga says, as if Nikaido couldn't tell.

“Oh god no, why!?” Nikaido looks at his mother, begging her to understand that this is not okay and she should take the albums away this instant.

“You're really cute Nika-chan, there's nothing to be embarrassed about.” Senga laughs and looks at Nikaido's grandmother. “Besides, it was Grandma's idea, right?”

“I thought he would enjoy it.” Nikaido's grandmother agrees, and it's so typical because he can't be angry with her either. She's so old and fragile and makes the best yakiniku on this planet after all.

“Grandma, seriously?!” He whines instead, but sits down on the couch next to her.

“Calm down love, these are adorable.” Senga giggles and turns a page. “What's this?”

He asks Nikaido's mother and points, and damn them to have chosen Nikaido's grandmother as their sheild because he can't just push her away to see.

“That's kindergarden graduation. He made that little flowercrown himself.” Nikaido's mother says excitedly, talking about her kids when they were little and cute one of her favorite hobbies, and Nikaido knows what the picture looks like now.

He drops his face into his hands, almost about to explain that yes, he did want his crepe paper flowers to be green and therefore he painted them, but Senga's mind seems to be elsewhere.

“You can really see it's him though, he's so cute.” He says, almost like it hurts his heart that Nikaido is so cute, and Nikaido can't help but relax a little.

He rises and heads for the kitchen to get something to drink, at least not willing to look while his little self embarrasses him. He pours himself some juice and jumps when he sees his mother in the corner of his eye.

“Mom! Stop sneaking!” He says, heart beating fast in shock since he didn't hear her at all.

“He's really sweet.” She says and Nikaido stops with the glass halfway to his mouth. “He asked if you wouldn't be upset if we looked at them without you.”

Nikaido makes an acknowledging face because yeah that sounds like Senga.

“But I thought that if he looks at them, he's getting to see another part of our family. And that's what you want right? Him being a part of our family?” His mother smiles and Nikaido's heart breaks because that is the best thing she's ever said, ever.

He sets the glass down and takes a step forward to hug her tightly. “Mom, you're the best.”
